Uchiha Itachi carred out an order to kill his own clan, an order handed down by the two Hokages Advisors and Danzo. This is where the first glimpse of Konoha's dark side was revealed. The Third Hokage was helpless to stop this massecre, he was outnumbered and as Hokage had to do what was "best" for the entire village...

A few years earlier, before Narutos and Sasukes time, Danzo and the two Hokage Avisors planned the Uchiha massacre, but, three individuals stood in their way. Minato,Jiraiya and the Third Hokage, Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors knew that if they revealed their plans at this time they would be exiled. No matter how dangerous and untrusting the Uchihas had become over the years the three of them would not agree to such a rash action.

Then came that faithful night, the night that shook Konoha to its very foundation, the Kyuubi attacked. In the battle against the Kyuubi Minato sacrificed himself in order to protect the village he loved. Minato sealed the Kyuubi within his own son, Uzumaki Naruto. Not ready to face Naruto and fearing that he may one day tell him the truth about his father and his family Jiraiya left Konoha to mourn the loss of his student. In exilement Jiraiya punished himself for not being strong enough to save his student, instead he was forced to helplessly watch him die.

Naruto was left under the protection of the Third Hokage, fearing that Naruto may be killed for having such a demon within him the Third Hokage made sure no harm was done to Naruto. The entire village mourned the death of the Forth Hokage all but three individuals, Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors. The three of them saw Minatos death and Jiraiyas absence as an opportunity they could not pass up. They blamed the Kyuubis attack on Konoha on the Uchiha clan, and they had to trouble finding support in their accusations amongst the other villagers.

A few years later the three of them preassured and out numbered the Third Hokage so much into doing the "right thing" as the protector of the village that he could only watch the Uchiha massacre. Third Hokage was asked to protect someone, a boy named Uchiha Sasuke. This boy was the last member of the Uchiha clan in the Hidden Leaf Village. Uchiha Itachi the man who murdered his entier clan on orders from Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors pleaded with the Third Hokage to protect his little brother. With the Uchihas out of the way Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors turned their attention to the little "demon boy" that resided within Konoha.

Not being able to harm Uchiha Sasuke for the fear of his brother Uchiha Itachi revealing village secrets to outsiders they targeted Uzumaki Naruto. Killing the person who the villagers feared and saw as a thread to their safety, was going to be easy. Everyone in the village knew and thus feared and hated Naruto for what he was and for what he had inside of him. Making Narutos assassination that much easier, preassuring the Third Hokage into submission once more would be no troube at all. Especially with the backing of most of Hidden Leaf Village.

But, just like with Sasuke there was someone standing in their way, and that was non other than Jiraiya himself. Fearing that the death of Naruto would cause  Jiraiya to return to the village. And exact revenge on the ones responsible would be catastrophic. So Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors backed off. Time passed, after the Third Hokage died in his battle against Orochimaru and not having seen either Uchiha Itachi or Jiraiya Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors saw the perfect opportunity to take out two birds with one stone. They planned to kill both Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Naruto but the Third Hokage made carrying out that task much harder.

The Third Hokage paired Sasuke and Naruto with the most capable shinobi in the Hidden Leaf Village, Hatake Kakashi. The Third Hokage knew that if anything where to heppen to him both Naruto and Sasuke would be well taken care of. Even with Kakashi in their way Danzo and the two Hokage Advisors planned to take out Naruto and Sasuke. But something happened, two individuals made an unexpected return to the village.

Uchiha Itachi and Jiraiya both arrived after the death of the Third Hokage thus completely crushing Danzo's and the two Hokage Advisor's plans. Uchiha Itachi arrived in Konoha to act as a symbol that stated, "Even if the Third Hokage is dead i am still alive and watching over Sasuke". Jiraiya's return symboled the fact that he had finally coped with his beloved student's death and that he was finally ready to take Naruto under his wing. Unlike Itachi Jiraiya was compleately oblivious to the fact that he had just saved young Naruto's life.
